Job Description

This position is responsible for cable splicing and laying for FOC in terms of repair, installation, preventive maintenance or any other tasks related.

This position is assigned for Technicians capable of handling medium scale complexity tasks and require assistance from team leader, expert technician or Technician A in fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, fixes, or installations.

the employee shall assist another higher-level Technician by getting practical experience in large scale and complex tasks. Also, the employee shall have proven records of quality work with no mistakes, ability to work independently, acquiring certifications, improving education level, leadership competencies in terms of decision making, commitment to goals, continuous improvement, initiative taking shall be apparent in a consistent manner with proven records of achieving outstanding results.

Requirements

General Duties:

  • Handle installation, equipment layout, integration, commissioning, testing, optimization, operation, as well as identification and maintenance of Power Equipment on the site.
  • Regularly climb ladders and work on rooftops and may occasionally work on towers.
  • Handle status monitoring systems and demonstrate ability to diagnose and solve problems.
  • Check connectivity for correct functionality and optimal performance.
  • Ensure adequate supply levels by inventorying stock and communicating needs to warehouse
  • Treat customers with respect, courtesy, and professionalism at all times
  • Provide daily status monitoring of assigned sites.
  • Maintain and report monthly performance statistics.
  • Load required tools and material into assigned Company vehicle with automatic transmission.
  • May need to drive from and to site locations.
  • Use hand tools to connect wires to terminals and to attach and detach various kinds of hardware to cable, etc. Work with colour coded wires.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures while working autonomously
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following safe practices and adhering to safety policies.
  • Follow industry codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Handling inside amp; outside plant installation, construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Require competence in all phases of wiring connectivity technology and design amp; engineering.
  • Apply knowledge of all types of construction materials, equipment and appropriate guidelines for safety applications.
  • Installation, construction, maintenance amp; repair and, on occasions, supervision of all ISP/OSP and wired services technicians working on projects.

Cable Splicer amp; Laying Technician Specialized Duties:

Be able to read and follow precise diagram drawing of fiber connectivity.

Handle cable laying activities.

Handle single Mass fusion fiber splicing; preparation, installation, testing and repair of fiber optic cable using a variety of fusion splicing and testing equipment.

Accurately read and interpret splicing documents, splicing engineer packets and network plan designs in preparation for each job.

Using a fusion splicing equipment, splice fiber optic cable, single or mass fusion, in a variety of elements, indoor and outdoor

Follow required inspection processes and fiber testing using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)

Analyse and prepare test results for customer presentation.

Responsible for complying with all safety standards

Buried Wire Technician Specialized Duties:

Locate buried facilities using appropriate equipment.

Operate a vehicle with trailer.

Place buried service wires using a manually controlled gasoline/diesel powered tractor/trencher, plow, boring machine or manual tools.

Coordinate work activity with customers, other utilities, and government agencies.

Provide periodic maintenance and non-complex repairs to equipment.

Excavate using a shovel.

Read and interpret simple instructions.

Follows established safety practices and procedures including the manufacture's specifications for operation or use of equipment.

Field Technicians General Abilities:

  • Understand optical network design.
  • Knowledge of RF, AC, DC.
  • Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment.
  • Ability to walk over all types of conditions in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including ladders, and fully loaded tool belts
  • Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices.
  • Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder and poles using hooks and climbing belts as needed.
